Fields Of Green: a property business with its own quote engine

Fields Of Green is the lawn care and property services business founded and owned by Michael P. Goodman in Rochester, NY. Its custom Property Quote Engine turns an address into a transparent, server-calculated quote, and shows "Not available" instead of inventing data.

Fields Of Green overview

Quoting is where small service businesses lose time and trust. The Property Quote Engine exists to make the quote fast for the customer and defensible for the business: the customer enters a property, the system enriches it with real data where a public source exists, the customer confirms the details no public source can know, and the price is calculated on the server from a rate card.

An earlier demo used fabricated property data. The production design replaced it with verifiable sources and honest labels, which is the same discipline I apply to client automation: read-only first, every figure traceable, nothing invented.

Fields Of Green architecture

The quote engine is a small, deliberate pipeline. Each stage either pulls a fact from a verifiable source or asks the customer to confirm it.

Property Quote Engine data flowA customer enters an address in the HTML and JavaScript front end. FastAPI geocodes it with the US Census Bureau geocoder, enriches it with parcel data where a source is connected, and asks the customer to confirm features that have no public data source. A server-side rate card calculates the quote, which is stored in SQLite and shown as a site-plan exhibit with a line-item breakdown.SERVER-SIDE: pricing logic and rate card never reach the browserCustomer formaddress + featuresGeocodingUS Census geocoderParcel datawhere connectedQuote + exhibitsite plan, breakdownRate cardserver-side calcSQLitepersisted quotes

Honest data handling

  • Verified where possible. Addresses are geocoded nationwide with the free US Census Bureau geocoder, and parcel data is used where a source is connected.
  • "Not available" is a valid answer. Addresses outside the supported parcel-data area show it plainly instead of a made-up value.
  • Self-reported means labeled. Fence, pool, tree canopy, landscape beds and driveway conditions have no public data source, so they are marked customer-confirmed.
  • Pricing stays on the server. The rate card and calculation run in the backend, so the browser never holds the pricing logic.

Fields Of Green outcomes

What the build delivers, described by design and not by invented performance numbers.

Real data replaced demo data

Fabricated, hashed demo values were replaced with geocoded addresses and live parcel data where available.

Quotes the customer can verify

Each feature is tagged as verified or customer-confirmed, so the quote breakdown is explainable line by line.

Owner-built, owner-operated

One person designed the business, the site and the software, which keeps the system small, understandable and cheap to run.

Fields Of Green FAQ

What is Fields Of Green?

Fields Of Green is a lawn care and property services business in Rochester, NY, founded and owned by Michael P. Goodman. Its website is fieldsofgreenrochester.com.

What does the Property Quote Engine do?

It geocodes a customer's address, enriches the property with public data where a source exists, asks the customer to confirm the remaining features, and calculates the quote on the server from a rate card.

Why does it sometimes say Not available?

Because inventing a value would make the quote untrustworthy. Where no verified source exists for an address, the engine says so.

Small, auditable web tools are the same engineering as larger automation work: clear requirements, tested code and systems you own.
